Jam band (or Jamband)
...is a term that refers to bands, albums, festivals, etc., that relate directly or indirectly to the jam band culture. The concerts of such bands may feature extended musical improvisation over rhythmic grooves and chord patterns.[1] Jam bands may exist within a variety of genres, including rock, psychedelic rock, heavy metal, progressive rock, funk, progressive bluegrass, blues, country music, folk music, world music, electronica, and jazz fusion.[1]
The seminal group, the Grateful Dead, were originally categorized as psychedelic rock.
